1. Plastic or Glass Jug
The size of this jug depends on how much wine you are planning on making. Its purpose is for long ter storage / fermentation. If you plan to use a plastic jug make sure the recycling label on the bottom of it is either a 1 or a 2. Any other plastic will not work and could even create contaminated wine (probably will not hurt you, but it will taste awful). Whether it is a plastic or glass make sure theinside of the jug is free of scratches and is clean.
2. Airlock
There are different types of airlocks you could use for wine making purpoases, but as far as home wine making equipment goes the best has got to be a commercial grade airlock. As about them at your local hardware store. You should be able to pick one up for $2 or less.
3. Rubber Stopper
This is another very inexpensive, yet important piece of your wine making equipment. The exact size of the stopper will depend upon the size of the jug that you are planning on using - Obviously test fitting the plug to the bouth of the jug will ensure the best fit and help you avoid unnesseccary returns to the hardware store.
4. Something to Stir With
It needs to be long enough to get to the bottom of the jug. skinny enough to fit through the mouth and neck of the jug, strong enough to not break on you, and easy enough to handly to make stirring a simply process ... in other words any old stick will do.
5. Funnel
How else are you going to pour liquids into their respective containers without spilling?
6. Bottles
Possibly one of the most important pieces of wine making equipment. The bottles! You have to store that precious wine you just made in something.
7. Turkey Baster
This is a tool that all the pros use. Why? To sample their wine after the fermentation process is finisheed. This will tell you if your creation is ready to be bottled.
8. Siphon
This is simply a piece of tubing you will use the wine out of the jug. This is a crucial piece of wine making equipment. Your best bet is to track down a store in your area that sells brewing equipment and pick up an Autosiphon or just purchase one online.
9. Sanitizer
For clean up of course. Trust me you do not want everything smelling like a chem lab when you are done. Do not neglect this step!
Well that's about it for wine making equipment. Hobbly all these components together and you will be creating your own homebrew in no time ... Although I am not making any promises about the taste!
